A Princess, I’m a King Bow Down and Kiss on My Ring

This article is going to look at the very famous opening line from the infamous album called Daisy Song by the Isley Brothers: “She said she was a daisy, she had daisies all over her head / And she was telling you to give me some more, if you like daisies.” The song starts off innocently enough with the performer singing the title a little awkwardly, before continuing: “And I could suck daisies,” he continues. Then the singer states: “If you give me some more, I’ll suck daisies.” And we all know what happens next. If you want to make your ex-boyfriend really mad, this is the way to go about it.

One popular take on the “I like daisies” line in the song is to use it as a rhyming punchline for some stupid lines like: “I’m a daisy tree, she’s my daisy tree.” It can be funny when performed by itself, but it works even better when combined with other lines. Let’s look at another example: “I’m a daisy tree, she’s a daisy tree.” Now you’ve got the perfect opening line and conclusion to your love song. You’ve got a great punchline, you’ve got a great chorus (just use some of those “I like daisies” lyrics) and you’ve got an idea of how the song is going to end. How’s that for a killer opening line and chorus?

You might not think much of “I’m a Princess, I’m a King” until you hear it performed live. Usually, the vocalist doesn’t know how to do it live. They get the notes wrong and they try to say it in such awkward ways that no one gets it. But then, when they sing it back (or maybe they recording engineers? ), they absolutely nail it.
