Are Daisies Poisonous to Cats?
According to the ASPCA, daisies are not poisonous in small quantities. However, they may cause gastrointestinal upset in cats that nibble on them. If a kitty consumes too many daisies, they could start vomiting and experience diarrhea as well. This can lead to dehydration as the cat is losing a lot of fluids through vomiting and diarrhea. In severe cases, a cat that ingests too many daisies can also begin to bleed internally which is often visible in their vomit and feces as black streaks of blood.
The ASPCA recommends calling your veterinarian immediately if you think that your kitty has consumed too many daisies. A vet can examine your pet and administer fluid therapy to help flush the toxins from their system and rehydrate them. They may also prescribe a bland diet to help with their digestive problems.
Ingesting too much of any type of flower or plant can have negative effects on your pet. The ASPCA has put together a list of plants that are toxic to cats so you can keep them away from your pet. Daisy plants are part of the Compositae family which includes a variety of other flowers such as tulips and lilies that are very dangerous to your feline companions.
Another common flower that is toxic to cats is the simple jade plant, or Crassula argentea. This plant can cause dermatitis or skin irritation, lack of coordination, extreme salivating, and vomiting.
