Daisy Seeds – How to Grow Daisy Seeds

The daisy, which is also known as the common ox-eye or day’s eye, is the most well-known member of the Compositae family and has become one of the most beloved garden flowers. They are a very low-maintenance perennial that can be grown in almost any type of garden.

Daisy seeds can be started indoors in trays or directly seeded into your flower garden after the last frost in the spring. They require a lot of light to germinate so they should be planted in the early part of the season, or when temperatures are warmer.

If you are planting them in the ground, they can be spaced about 50cm apart each way. Everlasting daisies are a reliable variety and do not require any pre-treatment, although some people prefer to use cold stratification before sowing. They are a very quick growing perennial that should be ready for blooming in two months from sowing.

In addition to their low-maintenance nature, they are tolerant of drought and are very hardy. However, for the best results, keep them evenly moist during dry periods rather than giving them regular soakings. They respond well to feeding and will produce more flowers if you add an all-purpose liquid fertilizer every three weeks starting in the second year of growth.

When it comes time to divide the perennial daisies, dig up the entire plant with a spade, and pull or cut off any extra roots that are hanging around. Replant the divisions in your garden or pots and water them well to settle the roots.
