Daisy Vs Myrtle Wilson (Movie Review)

Daisy Buchanan and Myrtle Wilson are two very different characters who have many differences between them, but they also have similarities. Both of them are struggling with their own issues and yearning to attain certain types of dreams. The main thing that they have in common is that they are surrounded by wealth, but they still feel as if they are missing something important.

While Daisy is living in a mansion in the upper class neighborhood of east egg, Myrtle lives in a garage in the valley of ashes. Myrtle is a poor working-class woman who is having an affair with Tom Buchanan, which is allowing her to have a taste of the rich lifestyle that she desires. Myrtle is naive in believing that Tom truly loves her, and she assumes that he will whisk her away from George, divorce Daisy, and marry her. This is a very unrealistic belief, as Tom treats Myrtle like an object and merely uses her to fulfill his own selfish desires.

Similarly, Daisy is also very unhappy in her marriage with Tom. She feels as if she is wasting her life and is stuck in the same place forever. She is a good mother to her daughter, but she does not have a lot of ambitions or goals for herself. She reads cheap scandal magazines of Broadway like ‘Town Tattle’ and ‘Simon Called Peter’, and she is obsessed with having expensive clothing. This is a sign that she is not happy with her current situation, as she feels as if she needs to put on an appearance in order to impress other people.
