After a challenging couple of years, Katy Perry seems to have a lot to be happy about. With a new baby girl, her sixth album, and a fresh start with her fiance Orlando Bloom, the singer has much to smile about. But she also might have some lessons for her daughter on the new song, “Daisies,” which talks about feeling torn down by nonbelievers and pursuing dreams despite negative feedback. These might be some of the lessons she wants to pass onto Daisy Dove Bloom, Perry’s daughter with Orlando.
The ethereal music video for “Daisies” features a pregnant Perry adorned in a white maternity dress singing among a field of daisies. The “California Gurls” singer is also shown removing her clothes near a babbling brook and standing defiantly on the edge of a cliff, symbolizing washing away any doubts about herself.
In the second verse, Perry asks why people lose faith in magic and settle for more mundane realities. The final chorus concludes with a plea to be covered in daisies, a sign of hope and optimism despite the hardships life throws at us.
“Daisies” is the first single from Perry’s upcoming fifth studio album, which will be called Smile and released on August 14. The album was conceived during a difficult time for the singer following her 2017 full-length project Witness’s failure to connect with the public and critics. As of August 14, the music video for the song has racked up more than 10 million views on YouTube.
